Walkman
(1979)
by Akio Morita Akio
Morita, co-founder of the Japanese firm Sony, invented a cassette
player
small enough for people to carry around. His name for it was Walkman.
This was
considered bad English, so at its launch in 1979 it was the Soundabout
in the
USA and Stowaway in Britain. Morita got his way in the end - it is now
the
Walkman everywhere. |
