    He is credited with inventing the portable camera at a time, when photographers used to carry their paraphernalia, the size of a caravan, to location site. He had zeal, a burning desire to succeed in life, and he succeeded. He is scientific bent of mind made him a great achiever in the field of photography.

    With a mission to succeed in life, George Eastman started the Eastman Dry Plate and Film Company in 1881 at Rochester in the United States. After painstaking efforts, he introduced the roll film and coined a no-meaning word to name his product. Although he had accomplished his mission, Eastman was not content. He went ahead by introducing Cine film, simple box camera - the Kodak Brownie, the folding camera.


    He was an extraordinary man with clear vision and understanding. Eastman retired from his Kodak Company at the age of 71. He was a philanthropist and donated money to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. On March 14, 1932, he called his friends to see the changes he had made in his will by donating all his wealth. Later, he shot himself in his bedroom. He left a note - "To my friends - My work is done, so why wait?"
